Baltimore's Adoptable Dogs, March 2015

Jada adoptable through Bella's Bully Buddies

Jada is enjoying life in her foster home, getting along well with her four legged foster sisters and loves to be outside.  She has a great zest for life and loves to explore outside. Jada previously lived with smaller dogs and with a proper introduction would likely do well with almost any dog.  She gets excited but is pretty easy to calm down.  Jada loves toys, especially ones she can throw around by herself or can play tug with!  She likes her food, but is always careful to eat slowly and take treats gently.  Jada is perfectly content lounging on a comfy bed laid out for her, but if you invite her to snuggle you'll see that she is awesome at it! Jada's foster family feels that a family that has a moderate level of activity, likes to be outside, understands that 50 pound dogs can be lap dogs too and like to laugh and say 'Awwww' would be a perfect fit!

Jacob adoptable through Baltimore Bully Crew

Located in Baltimore, MD. This is Jacob. He is 2-3 years old. He is currently living in foster with 2 female dogs. He is working on brushing up on his basic obedience. He is housetrained and cratetrained. He needs a home without cats. Please visit our website at www.baltimorebullycrew.com and complete our adoption application to add Jacob to your family.

Oliver adoptable at BARCS

4 years old – altered male – 56 lbs
Oliver is quite the special guy. He was originally at BARCS 2.5 years ago and staff and volunteers have quickly been reminded of why we love him so. This big dufus has tons of personality and an all around happy-go-lucky demeanor. During his previous shelter stint Oliver spent a couple of months in our foster program prior to adoption. He lived and played well with both a male and female dog companion. He was and appears to still be crate trained, walks fairly well on a leash and housebroken. Now back at the shelter he spends his day shelling out sloppy kisses to anyone who will have him! Oliver was rehomed from his original adopter and what has transpired since is just heartbreaking. Oliver was found by another municipal animal control in a vacant house with deceased animals. He was starving and emaciated at only 36 lbs. No one knows how long he was left there for and it’s too sad to even think about. Oliver was transferred here after almost a month at the other shelter, now weighing 56 lbs- he still has some weight to gain. Oliver was assessed off leash with both male and female dogs today and while he did display signs of nervous and dominant behavior he completely avoided confrontation and co-existed well with the dogs in the play yard. After all this guy has been through, we're hopeful continued exposure will regain his confidence and he can once again be a social butterfly! We would really love to get Oliver into a stable rescue environment where he will surely flourish with the promise of a future he very much deserves! Who can say no to this face?!

To adopt, please come on down to the shelter!

To rescue organizations, please email rescue@baltimoreanimalshelter.org! (Any rescue organizations must be approved to pull from BARCS. To become an approved rescue, please contact the Rescue Coordinator at the email above to receive an application.)

Please consider adopting, fostering, volunteering, donating, or (at the very least) sharing on social media. Thank you!

Restaurant Review, Oyamel in DC

Name: Oyamel

Location: 401 7th Street NW Washington DC In the Penn Quarter at the corner of 7th and D. Parking is on the street (fee per hour) unless you want to reserve a spot on a lot for a flat fee ($11-$22). See the Oyamel website for that.

Prices: Our total bill was $77 and we got 2 margaritas, a soda, chips and salsa, queso dip, and 2 dishes each. Overall pricing was mediocre... I wouldn't say it was high and I wouldn't say it was cheap either. The food is top quality and I think the pricing was right on considering that.

Food: We started off with 2 Oyamel margaritas ($12 a piece) and they were delicious... basically a classic margarita but with "salt air" (which was a first for us) instead of a salt rim. The salt air was so cool and lasted the entire drink. With each sip, you got the perfect amount of salt flavor! I think for the size, it could have been a dollar or two cheaper.

{Please excuse the bags under my eyes and the messy hair... the Eric Church concert was the night before! ;) }

It was recommended by our server that each person get 3 dishes since they serve small plates. With that being said, we split queso and salsa as our "appetizer" and then each got 2 dishes.... we were so full and each had 1 dish to take home. So it is my suggestion that each person start out by ordering 2 dishes and then 1 more if you are still hungry.

Moving on to what we ordered. The "Queso fundido con tequila" ($8) was delicious but we preferred eating it with tortilla chips rather than the tortilla shells that it was served with. It was perfectly cheesy and not spicy (mix with salsa if you like spicy).

I ordered the "Taco de hongos con crema" ($4) and "Frijoles Rebosero enchilados" ($10)... both were great but the taco knocked it out of the park. I totally recommend it to vegetarians and meat lovers alike! The taco was filled with mushrooms and shallots while the frijoles dish was a mix of beans and vegetables.

Jon went with the "Gorditas de pato" ($12) and "Quesadilla de chicharrones" ($8.50). He says the gorditas knocked it out of the park for him and reminded him of a dish that he gets at Anejo (our all time favorite mexican restaurant). The gorditas were topped with duck confit while the quesadilla was filled with pork belly.

Ambiance: I don't even know how to describe the decor. I feel like it was really artsy and fun! Definitely a casual place but they had a room in the back with darker lighting and different decor for more formal events. There's a large bar, 2 open dining spaces, a small corner bar, and then the back room. It's a huge place but trust me, it fills up! You might consider making a reservation because there were only a few tables left on a Wednesday around 1pm. Our server was great and made the best recommendations for us as well as describing the food to us in detail. She highly recommended the guacamole a few times but Jon isn't really a fan so we passed. Come to find out, they come to the table and make the guacamole in front of you! I was so jealous when I saw another table order it. The next time we are there (and there WILL be a next time!), I'm definitely ordering the guacamole!!!

Green

Happy St. Patricks Day friends!!! I think I have a sliver of Irish blood in me but my dad has never really been exactly sure of what he is (except for American Indian) so who knows! Most people use the holiday as an excuse to wear green, drink green, eat green, decorate green... you name it, today has turned into being about GREEN weather you're Irish or not! It's all about having good fun. I put together this inspirational outfit using my favorite shade of the color with some gold accents. Such a cute ensemble without looking cheesy for the occasion.

I hope ya'll have a wonderful and lucky St. Patricks Day! I know I can't wait to have children one day so that I can make them green pancakes in the shape of a four leaf clover or to surprise them with a pot of gold chocolates in their lunch box... but for now, pour me a glass of Guinness and let the celebrating begin even though I'm probably not Irish at all ;)

Blog Name Change

I'm not sure if any of ya'll noticed on Friday, but I officially changed the name of this little blog from Life As A Baltimore Girl to Charm City Ciemny's. There are still some tweaks that need to be made but for the most part I am really happy with the change! It has been a long time coming. I've wanted to change the name of this blog for a while but wanted to wait until the perfect name came to mind. I wanted something that represented who I was and where I'm from because after all, that's exactly what this blog is about for me!

I have updated my "About Me" page with a little intro to the blog name itself. I've also updated my blog button and have added some addition pictures from my wedding on the "Contact" and "Collaborate" pages. Using those pictures creates a theme throughout the blog and my social media accounts... I just love it! I would so appreciate if you checked them out and let me know what you thought. Have a happy Monday and great week!

PS. the web address of this blog is still the same {www.lifeasabaltimoregirl.blogspot.com}

Five on Friday

TGIF!!! Another addition of Friday randoms...

1. The new Cinderella is in theaters and I can't wait to see it! When I was little it was my absolute favorite movie. My grandfather and I would watch it over and over again! I might be married and in my twenties now, but every girl has that inner "princess" in them so I am so excited to see how Disney pulled off the new Cinderella. I'm sure it won't beat the classic.

2. We are getting closer and closer to the day that Lilly Pulitzer will be available at Target. April 19th to be exact!

3. Speaking of Spring... the weather is slowly but surely getting warmer every day. The snow has melted and my backyard is finally STARTING to dry up. It has me brainstorming landscaping ideas which I hope to start tackling next weekend! I have the Pottery Barn galvanized bucket and stand which is supposed to be used for beverages but I'm thinking I MIGHT use it to plant herbs in. What do ya'll think? Keep it to use for beverages or turn it into a planter? Hmmm {By the way, I'm loving these plant labels}

4. Baltimore happenings: The Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ show is at Timonium Fairgrounds Friday and Saturday. The St. Patrick's Day Parade and 5k is on Sunday. 2 fun things to take part in this weekend!

5. Have you checked out Celestial Creations 4U? Don't forget she is offering 10% off by using code JUSTINE10 at check out!!! For more info, see this post.

Have a great weekend sweet friends!!!

Eric Church in DC

Jon and I share a love for Erich Church... he's one of the few artists/bands that we are both crazy about. We last saw him in New York for my 25th birthday and it was one of the best times of our lives! So when we found out he would be playing by us in DC, we decided to get tickets... even though we just saw him a few months prior. 2 friends of ours joined and we had a blast. A perfect way to spend a mini getaway.

Our night started out at Graffiato for happy hour food and drinks! I have to say the food was delicious (and very reasonably priced) and they make really great cocktails (although those were a little pricey).

We moved on to a bar next to the Verizon Center for one more beer before heading in. We were settled in our seats with a few minutes to spare before Eric came out. He absolutely did not disappoint! But I do have to say, his show at Madison Square Garden was better. Maybe it was because we had better seats then? Who knows? :)

{These boots...}

Great night with friends. Great concert. Great time away from work. The next morning we checked out of our hotel and grabbed a quick lunch before heading back home. We stopped in at Oyamel on a whim. Um best mexican food! A very close second to my absolute favorite mexican spot, Anejo in New York. If you are ever in DC or New York, I highly recommend trying those two spots.

Ikea Hacks

Ikea hacks! Lately I've been seeing a lot of these and I have to tell ya... it's making me want to take on another project (I'm sure my husband doesn't like to hear that lol). Have you ever taken an ordinary Ikea product and turned it into something amazing? It seems like it's a pretty common thing but I've never done it. Just look at these cute hacks... looks so simple!

Here are three of my favorite hacks with simple directions to follow. Which one should I take on?
