Location: Downtown Havre de Grace, Maryland located at the confluence of the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay, is easily accessible just 1 mile off I-95, Exit 89. It is only 45 minutes north of Baltimore and 30 minutes south of Wilmington, Delaware.
How many of you bought the groupon for Chiapparelli's, assuming it was the downtown Baltimore location but only to find out that you have to redeem it at the Havre de Grace location? That didn't happen to us but I know it has happened to a lot of people because most don't even know that there is a location in Havre de Grace. For us it was very convenient because we were in the area for wedding stuff (our venue is The Vandiver Inn)
Prices: Our total bill was $60 and we got 1 glass of pinot grigio, 1 beer, fried ravioli appetizer, shrimp nicola appetizer, small chip salad, and the chicken Parmesan entree (which is also served with a small chip salad). And if you bring the copy of your receipt back with you in 30 days, you will receive 20% off your next bill!!! We thought the prices were standard at $6 for wine, $5.50 for beer, and $19 for the entree but the fried ravioli appetizer was $9 and served with only 4 small raviolis.
Food: The fried raviolis were great! I love, love, love them. I love the flavor of the raviolis being fried, plus the marina sauce is to die for. Perfectly sweet and savory.
Chiapparelli's is known for their "Chip salad" so of course we each had to get one and they certainly did not disappoint. The dressing is olive oil based and might have a touch of vinegar. It is served with standard iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, red onion, and hot peppers on the side. The best part about it though is the herbs and parmigiana cheese!! SO good but since we've been to the location in downtown Baltimore before, we noticed that Havre de Grace serves their salads with a little less cheese (you could always ask for more).
I got the shrimp nicola appetizer and it was pretty standard and just like any other shrimp nicola dish but the garlic bread that was served with it was to. die. for. I was disappointed because they only gave me one slice of it for about 6 large shrimps.
Jon got chicken Parmesan and just like everything else, it was pretty standard and served with their amazing sauce. The portion size was large and enough for him to take half home. Plus don't forget that every entree comes with a small chip salad!
Ambiance: It's definitely got an old Italian feel to it- The dining room was built in 1896. We sat at the bar and it was comfortable because it was just Jon and I. It's very small so if there were more guests it might have felt cramped so we would have gotten a table instead. The restaurant itself is very big with plenty of tables and they even specialized in large groups/parties with separate rooms so that's definitely something to keep in mind when planning special occasions. Our server/bartender was great and very friendly. She started us off with glasses of water and brought us some bread and butter. The bread sticks were fresh, and had cheese and herbs baked on!
